Discover how to finally get the health you deserve eating delicious food

Learn which type of functional health diet may be best for you and your underlying health concerns

Functional Health Diets

Diets and food are fundamental to the functional medicine model. Every client needs to make some food and dietary adjustments whether to increase certain macronutrients, remove potential inflammatory foods or remove harmful toxic foods. What to eat and how to change your diet often involves some complex addiction and emotional issues. From a young age, children can be rewarded with junk foods such as candy and cookies. This leads to a lifelong emotional relationship with food. Recreational drugs, medical drugs and alcohol will add to this complexity. If your food issues are beyond our scope, we will recommend other resources to you so you can get the help you deserve.

How you can benefit from discovering your bio-individual diet strategy

At Metabolix Health we ask clients to make dietary changes from the outset. We often start with your stress levels because everyone is super stressed. Blood sugar imbalances are often related to stress and food. Do you eat when you are stressed?

Improved energy

When you eat healthier nutrient-dense foods, your stress levels improve.

Weight loss

Nutrient dense foods are higher in vitamins, antioxidants and fiber, and lower in calories. They fuel your body and fill you up, providing the energy you need to look and feel your best.

Better metabolism

There is a focus on protein rich foods that can help increase your metabolism. Your circadian rhythm is controlled by hormones and what happens in the day directly impacts your sleep whether you struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep.

The Full Rundown On Functional Health Diets

Functional medicine will always focus on whole, unprocessed, nutrient dense foods. Most of your plate should ideally be plant-based foods including non-starchy vegetables, low-sugar fruits like berries and avocado, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Now clearly, there are always going to be people who can’t eat avocado or legumes or nuts or seeds. But if you are struggling with eating a large variety of foods, this is about your microbiome and your leaky gut and you need to work on your gut first to help you expand your foods. It is not good for you to eat very few foods. The NIH estimates that ½ of the world’s adult population will be obese or overweight by 2030. So there is no shortage of people needing help with their diets and chronic disease.

  • Nutrient density relates to the amount of beneficial nutrients in a food in proportion to its energy content or calories.
  • Functional foods are foods that have a potential health benefit to the body and therefore all foods we recommend by definition are functional in nature.
  • Macronutrient ratios will vary depending on what functional health diet you are following and why but the most common ratios we recommend are protein 40%, fat 30% and carbohydrates 30% representing a balanced approach to macronutrients. Of course, this is very simplistic since there are good and bad fats, and good and bad carbohydrates.

Our ultimate goal at Metabolix Health is to work with you to reduce inflammation, improve immunity, balance hormones, improve your gut health and enjoy a more efficient metabolism.
